Found a stray cat?

It’s easy to feel unsure when a cat turns up unexpectedly. But your calm, kind response could make all the difference.

Here’s how to help responsibly:

  • 🔍Look for signs of ownership

Is the cat wearing a collar or tag?

Do they seem clean, confident, and well-fed?

Are they familiar with the area or behaving like they know their way home?

  • 📷 Take a photo and share locally

Post in community Facebook groups, local lost pet pages, and neighbourhood apps. Include location, time, and any unique markings.

Someone might be searching right now.

  • 🚑 If the cat is injured or clearly unwell

Contain them safely—using a carrier—and take them to a vet.

Most vets will scan for a microchip and offer guidance.

Don’t wait for online replies if the cat needs urgent care.

  • 📞Contact a rescue as a last resort

Rescues are often stretched and may not be able to take in found cats immediately.

Please try local sharing first, and only reach out if the cat is truly in need and no owner can be found. here

  • ⏳ Give it time before rehoming

It’s heart breaking when lost pets are rehomed too quickly.

Use official channels and allow space for families to reconnect.

  • 👶 If the cat has kittens

Please don’t move the kittens or disturb the mother. She may be feral, frightened, or simply doing her best. Stealing kittens, even with good intentions, can cause distress and harm.

Contact a rescue immediately. We’ll guide you through what’s safe, kind and necessary. Every hour matters, but so does respecting the bond between mum and babies.
