Ernie
Border Collie
Ernie is a friendly, intelligent young Border Collie who has made an amazing recovery and is now a playful, sociable boy ready for his forever home.
About Ernie
Some of you may remember Ernie - he arrived in our care as a very young puppy after suffering a serious injury, with a shattered femur and an uncertain future.
Since his operation and recovery, Ernie has absolutely blossomed thanks to dedicated foster care and ongoing support. He has grown into a happy, confident, and much-loved boy who has come on leaps and bounds in every way.
He is now a sociable, playful Border Collie who enjoys being part of a well-balanced pack and has settled beautifully into foster life with other friendly, well-socialised dogs.
Personality
Ernie is everything you’d expect from a young Border Collie - intelligent, energetic, and full of character.
He is:
Friendly and sociable with other dogs
Smart, eager to learn, and highly trainable
Playful, affectionate, and full of charm
Confident in a structured, active environment
A little cheeky with a goofy, lovable personality
He listens brilliantly to commands and thrives when given guidance, structure, and engagement.
Training & Behaviour
As a working breed, Ernie does show natural herding instincts. This means:
He may try to herd other animals (especially livestock and poultry)
He will need careful management around cats
He benefits from continued lead training and consistency
He is very responsive and learns quickly, especially with one-to-one attention.
Ernie also has a small amount of food guarding around unfamiliar dogs at mealtimes, but this has improved significantly in foster and continues to reduce as his confidence grows.
Lifestyle Needs
Ernie would suit an active, understanding home that enjoys working with intelligent breeds.
He needs:
An active lifestyle with mental stimulation
Continued positive training and structure
A secure environment (especially around livestock and cats)
A calm feeding routine while he continues building trust
A home that understands Border Collie behaviour and instincts
He travels well and is fine around older children.
Why Ernie is Special
Ernie has come such a long way from the tiny puppy who arrived in our care. He is now a bright, loving, and engaging young dog who brings joy wherever he goes.
He is ready for the next chapter of his life - a forever home where he can continue to grow, learn, and thrive.
Anyone would be lucky to have such a charismatic and affectionate boy.
