Forever Foster

Sometimes animals come into our care who are not suitable for the kind of rehoming we would usually look to achieve. This may be due to age, ongoing medical needs, or conditions that require lifelong veterinary support to keep them comfortable and well.

These animals still deserve safety, stability, and love - without the pressure of needing to meet a standard of full health that simply isn’t realistic for them.

Through our Forever Foster programme, we are able to place these animals into loving homes while continuing to fully cover their agreed medical costs. This means they can enjoy the comfort of a home environment, and caring people are not prevented from helping simply due to ongoing veterinary expenses.

If you have space in your home and heart for an animal who needs a little extra care - and a great deal of kindness - we would love to hear from you. These animals may not be suitable for traditional rehoming pathways, but they are absolutely deserving of a family environment.

What is Forever Foster?

Forever / permanent foster is not a rehoming arrangement, and it is not a reduced-cost alternative to adoption.

When an animal is placed into permanent (forever) foster, they remain legally owned by the rescue.

That means:

  • All veterinary care that has been agreed is covered by us

  • We remain responsible for their welfare and all medical decisions

  • The foster family provides daily love, stability, and transport to appointments where needed

This arrangement exists for one purpose only: to give animals with ongoing or significant medical needs the opportunity to live in a stable, loving home environment for life.

It is not based on age alone - many older animals are healthy and are placed into normal rehoming.

Permanent foster is specifically for animals whose medical needs mean:

  • They may require long-term or lifelong care

  • They may need ongoing medication, monitoring, or specialist treatment

  • Their health journey may be ongoing and require consistent support

A permanent foster placement is an opportunity for people who feel they can genuinely make a difference to an animal with additional needs - people who are willing to support them through chronic health issues and attend ongoing vet appointments, while we cover the medical costs.

We offer Forever Foster because:

  • Every animal deserves security, comfort, and kindness for life

  • We recognise that not all animals can follow a standard rehoming path

  • This programme allows those animals to still experience family life and companionship

Who can become a Forever Foster?

We look for homes that can offer stability, understanding, and long-term care for animals with additional needs. If you feel this might be you, here’s what we look for:

A Stable Home

A safe, calm and secure home environment where the animal can settle properly and feel part of the family. Consistency is really important for animals who may already have had a difficult start in life.

Time, Routine & Patience

These animals may need a little extra time to adjust, especially if they are on ongoing medication or have specific care routines. We look for people who can offer patience, kindness, and a steady daily rhythm.

Veterinary Access

Foster carers must be able to travel to Ddole Road Vets in Llandrindod for any ongoing treatment, check-ups, or specialist care. This ensures continuity and keeps their medical support consistent.

Compassion & Commitment

Most importantly, we look for people with a genuine love for animals and a willingness to support them through their individual needs. These placements are about giving an animal comfort, dignity, and a loving home for life.

Why is Forever Fostering so special?

For many people, forever fostering offers a meaningful way to make a real difference without taking on the full financial responsibility of long-term veterinary care.

It provides a vital lifeline for animals who would otherwise remain in rescue for extended periods, and it gives people the opportunity to offer a safe, loving home to those who need it most.

These animals do not need perfection - they simply need a calm home, a comfortable place to rest, and someone who will care for them.
